DELE stands for Diploma de Español como Lengua Extranjera. It is a certificate that serves to prove the knowledge of Spanish of any individual, and that is officially recognized by the Spanish Ministry of Education, Culture and Sports.

The DELE exam certifies that you have a certain level of the Spanish language. However, it is very difficult to pass this type of exam if you do not have a minimum knowledge of the Spanish-speaking culture. One of the best ways to get in touch with the Spanish culture is to take a language immersion course, since in this way, you will not only learn Spanish; but, in addition, you will get to know Spanish culture first hand.

Choose at what level to present yourself

This is something basic to be able to prepare the test well. The DELE diploma allows to certify any level of the Common European Framework (from A1 to C2), but the participant must choose the level
at which they want to present themselves when registering for the exam. Although, in general terms, the structure of the DELE exam is similar, the test for each level has specific features; Hence, it is not the same to prepare for DELE B2 than for DELE C1.

To do this, students are often recommended to take the DELE exam at the level they have already completed. But what if you have doubts about your level? In that case, you can have a 15-minute class / test with me to find out what your level of Spanish is.

There are six levels of DELE exams

Level 1

The Diploma in Spanish Level A1 certifies that the student will be able to cope with an elementary
language in communication situations that have to do with immediate needs or with very everyday
issues.

Level 2

The Diploma in Spanish Level A2 certifies that the candidate is capable of understanding frequently used everyday phrases and expressions related to areas of expertise that are especially relevant to
them (basic information about themselves and their family, shopping, places of interest, occupations, etc. .)

Level 3

The Diploma in Spanish Level B1 accredits sufficient linguistic competence to understand and react adequately to the most common situations of everyday life and to communicate wishes and needs in
a basic way (to participate in this exam you need to have at least a B1 level).

Level 4

The Diploma in Spanish Level B2 accredits sufficient linguistic competence to function in ordinary situations of everyday life, in normal communication circumstances that do not require a specialized
use of the language (to participate in this exam you need to have at least a B2 level) .

Level 5

The Diploma in Spanish Level C1 guarantees that the student’s progress in the language has been successful and that they have a more than advanced level of Spanish (to participate in this exam you need to have at least a C1 level).

Level 6

The Diploma in Spanish Level C2 accredits the linguistic competence necessary to function in situations that require a high use of the language and a knowledge of the cultural habits that are
manifested through it (to participate in this exam you need to have at least a C2 level ).

Practice test models

Once we have decided the level at which we want to present ourselves, it is very important that we familiarize ourselves with the DELE exam format. To do this, we suggest that you practice with some of the DELE exam models from other years. In this way, you will not only become familiar with the structure of the test, but you will also learn to manage the time to spend on each of the DELE exam questions.

Pay special attention to your weak points

Are you better at the writing part, the speaking part… ..? Whichever part you feel best about, it is possible that, when practicing DELE exam models, you will realize that some part is better for you
than another. Therefore, it is important to detect in which points of the DELE exam you need an extra reinforcement to try to improve and get the highest possible grade.
